TRIBUTE TO BRAHMS

(To the 190th anniversary of the composer)

Johannes Brahms wrote in all genres of music except for opera. He wrote about 80 works, including songs, serenades for orchestra, variations, sonatas, pieces for piano, cantatas, rhapsodies, requiems, concertos, overtures and symphonies.

For Brahms, chamber music was an integral part of his life, not only artistically, but also socially.

From an early age he was surrounded by chamber musicians – professionals and amateurs – and as early as the age of 10 he played chamber works by Mozart and Beethoven in a private concert organised by his father. At certain periods in his life, chamber music was his main voice, sincere and very personal. Brahms’ vast number of masterpieces for instrumental ensembles captures the spiritual and emotional life of the 19th century Romantic era.

The concert, dedicated to the great German composer, will feature a selection of his songs and romances as well as instrumental chamber music.
